Suspicion
Jan waited behind the tall trees outside the door, seething in anger as she shivered in the cold. It was a dark, eerie and snowy night in Gotham's suburbs. It was Jack all right, she thought for the tenth time in several minutes. His foot prints clearly led up the snow-covered walk way to the front door of the house, where he'd lost a single joker card from his deck of cards right before he went inside.
Jack and Harley had been making eyes at one another all afternoon at her cousin's party. Then when she'd woken up four o'clock in the morning, She'd found her bed empty and the front door wide open.
It wasn't the first time her Mr.J had disappeared in the night. But this time it was going to be the last.
She pulled the shiny chrome 38 snub nose revolver from her purse and stared at it lovingly. It was a parting gift from her father, who'd used it to blow his brains out the back of his head when Jan was just sixteen. Good riddance to the bastard, she though, remembering the beatings and abuse.
Tonight, she'd put her dear old dad's gift to good use.
While she knew she'd have to move quietly, she also realized she'd need to act quickly, before the first light of dawn. Jack had always returned home at dawn. Several times she'd feigned sleep and wondered. This time she'd know for sure.
She crept out from behind the trees and smudged out her darling Mr. J's footprints as she made her way to the door. Luck was with her: He'd left the door open as well, saving her the trouble of picking the lock, or breaking a window, which might have alerted them.
She grinned as she nudged the door open. She'd show them. She'd show them both. She might not be the smartest woman alive, but nobody played her for a fool.
With the deliberate care of a stalking cat she entered the living room. She slowly cocks the hammer back on the revolver. Only the sound of Harley's grandfather clock broke the silence. Good, she thought. They were probably both sleeping.
And they wake up dead, she thought, liking the way the expression sounded in her mind. She stifled the urge to say it aloud-wake up dead.
Harley would go first, she decided as she snuck towards the bedroom. After all Jack was a charming man and couldn't really blame women for wanting him. It wasn't Harley's fault. You just couldn't trust a joker. So she'd kill Harley quickly, in her sleep. Then she'd make her pumpkin pay the price.
She reached the bedroom and eased open the door. Already the first light of dawn filtered in through the window, highlighting a shadowy form of two individuals on the bed. She moves towards the bed and points the revolver at Harley first. A tear rolls down her cheek and she pulls the trigger. The bang from the pistol wakes him up. She becomes startled and quickly points the gun at him and puts one in his head. He falls back lifelessly on the bed next to his mistress. She takes a deep breathe and places the revolver back in her purse and leaves the residence.
Jan makes it home feeling a bit relieved to put an end to her suspicions. She deserves better than an unfaithful, game playing clown. She puts her key in the door and opens it to let herself in closing it behind her. She drops the purse on the couch and goes to the bathroom to wash up. Looking into the mirror, she noticed blood sprinkled on her face. She turns on the faucet and runs the warm water through her hands. She splashes her face washing away the blood. She turns around to grab a towel and screams as she see's a man standing behind her.
"Oh my god Jack! You scared me!"

Re: Suspicion
This was such a great read. And yeah, I know I already expressed my love for it.
But really, you're super talented with your writing.
I reallllly like the twisted ending, and your colorful word choice.
Fabulous. Just, amazing!
